The city of Key West held an inspiring second line precession in his honor and voted to name Jimmy the “Favorite Son of the Conch Republic”. The city of Key West also dedicated September 1st as Jimmy Buffet day and will hold an annual second line precession in his honor every year on this date. Even after his passing Buffet continues to inspire and transport listeners to a tropical paradise and reminds us that it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere.

The first time I saw JB was in 1974, when he played in the snack bar at Birmingham-Southern College one weekend! Just him, and his guitar, but he enchanted us all with his storytelling, jokes, and music for over two hours. Needless to say, more than a few of my chums and I have been delighted to follow to arc of his amazing ride. His passing leaves a great hole in our souls.
